GOOD NEWS!

It's all about how you ask:

Dear Paul,

I have been passed on your details from XXX XXXXXX. I am the the Volunteer Co-ordinator for the Huddersfield Students' Union. I would be happy to advertise you Explore group as we already have a scout group and girl guiding group on our database. You will need to register with us and if we could set up a meeting that would be even better. I'm not sure how many students' will be interested as we have only had limited interested in the guiding groups. I'm happy to give things a try if you are!!

If you would like to contact me further about this matter, that's fine I will look forward to hearing from you.

FRISBEE SKILLS

Ever played frisbee, indoors, whilst someone is playing cricket indoors, and with the room the size of a shoe box? Thought not. We have though - that's why 4 people were hit with the frisbee (2 of them twice).

Still - the night was a good one and we came up with some good ideas for the Patrol planned evenings.

BONFIRE NIGHT

Bonfire Night: Sam - firework lighter.

It was a cold and damp autumn night.
Then out of the dark came a brilliant flash and the sound of one of Saddams bombs going off in the air as the two Guy Fawkes burned on the fire.
Then for the next hour and a half we sat back and watched one of the best firework displays I have ever seen.

So a good night was had all round.

SC5

An account of the weekend: Paul - Camp organiser

Friday night
We all met up at the scout hut at 5pm and loaded all the equipment into Phil's trailer. Then we set off to Hesley Wood. When we got there it was dark and raining so we put the mess tent up straight away. It went up pretty easily and then I decided we should put the nine-man tent up which took absolutely ages. After all the tents were up we went to sit in the mess tent to have tea. We decided that as it was cold and we didn't have a spanner for the Dixie twos, we should have a pizza.

Saturday morning.
Phil and Mellor cooked breakfast a little too well! For breakfast we had bacon, egg, sausage, beans and fried bread. There were also cereals. Mouse Jane and I washed up.
That morning we played with the catapults that Scurrah brought, we managed to hit James in the face with a rebounded potato.

Saturday afternoon.
We went to do archery with Will Scarlet which I think everyone enjoyed as we did it again on Sunday. Anyway we played some competitions which were fun. Then we went back to camp where we played with the catapult some more.

Saturday evening.
Jane Rob and James cooked bolognese, which was fantastic, whilst the rest of us played a wide game. Phil and mellor won.
When we got back we had the bolognese and some of us had a game of poker. For pudding we had apple pie and custard. That night I decided to have an early night as I was tired from the wide game.

Sunday morning.
To get people up on Sunday to start putting everything away was hard, I think they must have had a late night! Anyway once everyone was up we started to pack everything away. Whilst this was happening I cooked breakfast. When I was putting sausages in the pan I splashed myself with the oil. It was very painful.
We had breakfast and packed up the nine man tent and put equipment into a smaller tent and then we went to have another go at Archery with Will Scarlet.

Sunday afternoon.
After Archery we packed the rest of the equipment away and played with the catapult some more. This time we managed to hit Scurrah and Rob in the leg, both direct hits.
After that we found left over fireable foods such as: eggs, tomatoes, a bag of suger and loads of other stuff we hadn't eaten and fired them.
Then it was time to go so we did a litter sweep and packed everything back onto Phils trailer and went back to Shat.

We hung the tents out to dry and then Scurrah decided to tell me that for the badge I had to lead a pioneering project, so with a couple of sticks Rob and Jane biult a gateway.

SC5

Well - on to SHABA Camp 5... Looks like it's going to be a wet one (about 11 degrees throughout the weekend with light rain/few showers... soaking then...), but I guess we'll have to deal with that. Good luck to Mr Maher who is camp leader - if anyone has a comment/question, please ask Paul first...

Eyes peeled for the next post... It will probably include a photo or two...
